Soil Health Management on Urban Farms

Join the Million Acre Challenge and ECO City Farms to learn about managing soil health on urban farms. We’ll cover common soil health practices like composting, cover cropping, crop rotation, and minimum tillage (broad-fork). We’ll also explore basic soil testing methods and in-field assessments like pH, conductivity, germination and jar or ribbon tests that help evaluate soil texture. Workshop participants will learn more about lab tests, including opportunities to go beyond nutrient testing to include physical and biological soil health indicators.

Attendees who are currently managing urban farm or market garden land will receive vouchers for free soil health tests. Part 2 of this series will be a Soil Test Clinic, where folks can come back to discuss their lab results and talk about management options to address any identified constraints.
